I love snail mail.

My best friend of seven years moved away in seventh grade, and our everyday hangs turned into weekly letters across the country.

I still can't decide what was more exciting — decorating and sending off letters filled with doodles of middle school crushes, glitter gel pen messages, and stickers, or opening the mailbox to find a handwritten note with my name on it.

Since becoming a mom, my love for snail mail has been rekindled through pen-pal exchanges between my son and his friends. I’ll admit, I’m usually the one doing most of the work when it comes to sending the letters (he’s not quite writing yet). But watching his face light up when he receives a note—and seeing him tuck it away carefully in his room—makes it all so worth it.

At the end of the day, all it really takes is a simple pen and a scrap of paper to capture the magic of snail mail. But if you’re in the mood to add a little extra charm to your letter-writing routine, I’ve linked a handful (30 to be exact!) of my current favorites:
