I’m a canon ae-1 fan too! Can you shine a light on the film you used for these too?

I was hoping you would write this exact post!! Thank you. I've just ordered one from Japan on Ebay. Really excited to get back into film photography. xx

Omg cameras from Japan are usually in pristine condition- I’m excited for you! Also you have such a good lab in Byron Bay! I loved the scans I got from Tom at Bayou when we were there!

Just found this Substack. I also just found my Mom's old Canon A1 while going through some of her photos that survived the years of storage and neglect. Interesting timing.

Indeed. It reignited my interest in photography. Now I'm waiting on a Canon F1 and a Nikon FMN2 from Japan (got some steals on eBay) and a pair of 28mm lenses so I can get to work and not have to worry about breaking my inherited A1 🤣

Portra400 is a really versatile film!! It’s the one I use the most

Ok i’m starting to saving up my pennies because I’m very interested in this shooting film course that you’ve got. Just went over and looked at the curriculum and seems like it’s laid out for me.

I love the look of film but can make absolutely zero claim to being a photographer.

I guess I’ll start hunting around for one of these cameras and lenses as well.

Loved your article, and. your photos. Also, I love the Canon ae-1 - I've got it since last year and still waiting for the results from my trip to Switzerland last month :)

I bought a canon ae1 a while ago inspired by you, this inspires me to finally pull her out and play with her 😝😍🙏

Sara, your photos are so dreamy and lovely! I really love how you see things. I’ve had a Canon AE-1 sitting on my shelf for a while now and you’re inspiring me to dust it off and load it up 📷

You do awesome work with it. Never used one myself but I use a Canon 7 which is of similar age and price and I love it. When somebody asks me for advice about getting into film photography I always say that the camera is not important, the lens is somewhat important and the film stock is most important.

My CanonAE1 is my favorite too! It's a classic for good reason :) I've been dreaming of a new lens, so thank you for the recommendations!

OMG you just reminded me that my dad had a canon camera very similar looking to this one that I may still have buried in a box up in the attic. I love my fun ekstar h35 half frame but would love to put a little more work into better (film!) photos, I absolutely love your photos (and the locations where they're taken!!). *ditching work to go search for that camera*

Your comment made me also immediately think about asking my parents if they still have their old cameras stashed away in a box! 😆 otherwise we are going to Japan this fall and I’ll have to have a lookout!

Beautiful photos. I had a Canon Ae-1 in the early 2010's as well as a few other film cameras. Unfortunately, I sold it on Ebay after I had mechanical issues with it. This is really making me miss my film cameras.
